Let’s Heat Things Up…

_mg_9147.jpgOne of the hottest trends in photography is called Boudoir (boo-DWAHR).  Depending on which photographer you speak to,  it can be called by different names: Lingerie, Intimates, or in our case Hotshots. Most often the session is booked by the bride-to-be and an album of images is give to the fiance as a wedding gift or for the first annivesary ‘paper’ gift.   But, there are many reasons for having this type of session done, some more obvious than others.  For brides, it’s a time when she is the most beautiful.  For others it may be a birthday milestone, or for weight loss goals reached, Valentines day or a gift for someone who may be overseas.  Some want it for therapeutic reasons or just for themselves (who doesn’t want to see beautiful images of themselves?).  One woman said she will be putting her book on the coffee table when she is old.

It would be a mistake to think of these photographs as porn.  Boudoir photography is an art form.  As one photographer said, “This is about sexy, not sex.”  High-end lingerie is usually the attire of choice and the images produced are tastefully done and artfully created masterpieces which will be treasured for years.   Images of a beautiful woman in sexy bedroom attire reflect her grace and dignity.

This type of photography puts the level of trust between a photographer and the client at an extremely high level.  The photographers abilities and moral code or ethics will have to be trusted implicitly and the photographer cannot violate that trust.  A professional photographer respects the trust given him and understands it is a required mark of his professionalism.  Trust is foundational in any relationship; without it there is no relationship.  Ladies, check the credentials of your photographer carefully!

Boudoir marathon weekends are introductory semi-private sessions at a hotel suite or resort lodge, where a photographer shoots a small selected group of women wanting these intimate shots.  It’s more cost efficient to do it this way since the cost is spread out amongst the participants.  Sessions are  approximately 1.5 hours per person and occasionally a make-up artist and / or a hair dresser is present, however that depends on how the promotion is arranged.  This is an excellent way to get quality photography done at reduced rates.  Some groups of women are doing these as ‘Girls Night Out’ events…or in place of the typical ‘Shopping Spree’ during hunting season:)
