Liz and Nick- Engagement shoot

Remember how important E-sessions are?  If not, scroll down until you find the answer, then report back here…heh.  Liz and Nick scheduled their e-session for July 3rd.  I made sure I scouted the area I wanted to use for this session.  The day was hot and I remember sitting and waiting for the couple to arrive and the air conditioner of my vehicle was running at full stream.  Once they arrived I stepped out into what felt like a wet oven.

I have an artist friend who tells me that old barns are one of the ‘A’ subjects one should try to paint or photograph. He says you can’t go wrong with ‘A’ subjects.  Not that we needed a barn to make this couple look good, but we couldn’t go wrong with a HOT couple AND an ‘A’ topic!  We started with the shoot at an old barn near where their wedding ceremony would take place.

It would cost me a fortune to buy enough bandwidth to show you all of the exquisite pictures I took of this couple.  Not only was it hot because of the weather, it was a hot shoot because of these two:

At the old barn site there was also another building which made an awesome backdrop:

We moved from the old barn site to a place just down the road.  Several years ago I was given an old cherry-picking ladder from a friend.  When fully upright it reaches about ten feet above the ground.  I had fastened this ladder to the top of my SUV before leaving for the session.  When we reached the spot I had selected, I set the ladder up and climbed to the top and sent Liz and Nick bushwacking amidst the waist-high grass and clouds of mosquitoes…heh.  Photographers will do ANYTHING to get a good picture!

From the field we move into a little used venue for e-sessions, but I had asked the bride if she had any objection to shoot there.  She said she didn’t.  Graveyards are very peaceful and beautiful settings and this one was OLD.  Lichens were growing on a lot of the grave markers.

From the graveyard we drove to the facility where they would hold the ceremony, less than a hundred yards from the cemetary.  Again I sent them out into the bushes and bugs beneath a beautiful willow tree.

From this site we drove to a nearby state park, approximately twelve miles from where we were.  Usually e-sessions have different changes of clothing, but in this case you can see we changed locations and NO clothing changes.

As I drove away from the park near the lake, the sun was setting and I thought about what we’d accomplished in 75 minutes.  Yes, five locations shot, up and down ladders, traipsing through graveyards, clouds of mosquitoes and the heat.  Was it worth it?  Yes…emphatically YES.  When I get pictures like these and hear the comments from happy couples and relatives.  It’s definitely worth it.
